IT HAS BEEN A GREAT FIRST WEEK!
It has been fun getting to know all the boys and girls in Mrs. McGarity's kindergarten class.  I am thrilled to say I finally know everyone's names.  I look forward to spending the next seven weeks with your child.

FIRST CLASS PICTURE
Look at how good we look!!!  The visitor in the back is my sister, Mrs. Linsey.  She came in from Kentucky to help us our first two days of school.  :)  We appreciate her help so much!

WELCOME!!!
I am excited to announce that we have a wonderful student teacher for the next few months in our classroom!!! Her name is Miss Andrea Duncan and she has already been here with us for four days.  She has been busy getting familiar with our school, the precious kids, and our daily routine.

Miss Andrea will be, and already has been, such an asset to our classroom.  With her help, more students have been getting one-on-one attention and assistance as they complete their math, reading, and science activities. Be looking for an intro letter from Miss Andrea in your child's blue folder this week.

We are very thankful for this opportunity to get to know Miss Andrea and show her how awesome our Bernie kids are!

Just a Few Reminders
1. Picture Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, August 22nd. Please dress your child accordingly and send in the picture order form if you would like to purchase them.

2. If you have not turned in all of the school paperwork on your child, please do so before this Friday. Thank you so much to those parents that have returned everything. I realize it is a ton of work to complete so many papers, but all of it is done for the protection of your child.

3. I will begin my monthly newsletter at the end of this month. Look for it in your child's blue folder. It will have pictures of your child from August and important dates and information for September.

4. Please send your child to school in tennis shoes every Monday and Thursday. Those are PE days, and PE is much more fun when your child can run and play in tennis shoes.

Symmetry...
In class, we recently learned about symmetry. As a result, we created beautiful symmetrical butterflies.  Your child will be bringing these home from school soon.  Right now, they are being displayed in the hallway.

 Snack Time...
Since we are coming up on our last week of school, it would great if we could celebrate each day with a special snack.  Our students are provided with peanut butter and crackers for their daily snack, but they always enjoy the special snacks the parents send much more.  If you would like to contribute, you may send the snacks to school with your child, drop them off in the office, or personally deliver them to our classroom.

I know many of you have repeatedly provided snacks for our kids, and I greatly appreciate your continued support.  I realize buying snacks for 16 students gets expensive and your sacrifice is noted.  So again, THANK YOU to those who have already donated!

End of Year Snack Ideas:
·         Cookies
·         Chips
·         Fruit Rollups
·         Goldfish Crackers
·         Fruit Snacks
·         Breakfast Bars
·         Popcorn
·         Popsicles
·         Capri Sun or other juice drink

Nightly Reading Books...
This was the last week for your child to bring home a nightly reading book.  I will begin assessing your child on fourth quarter skills these last two weeks of school instead.  Thank you for working with your child this school year on his/her reading.  As a class, they have all progressed so far, and I am extremely proud of their reading abilities!

Library Books...
All books are due back in the library this Friday.  If your child forgot to bring his/her book back today, please send it in his/her backpack Monday.  You will not be able to receive your child's report card for fourth quarter until all library books have been returned and all lunch charges have been paid.

Food Drive...
Our school is collecting canned and dry foods for our local pantries.  Since the kids of this community will be home over the summer, let's help pack our food pantries so every child will have plenty to eat.

Relay for Life
Our school is collecting money towards our Relay for Life goal.  If you want to help, please send your donation to school with your child sometime this week.  The class that collects the most money gets rewarded!

To watch the video above, (created by Michele Carmode, Bernie Schools Relay for Life Director), go to the bottom of the blog and silence the blog's music.  Then, you can enjoy the music made specifically for the Relay video.

Trip Details

The kindergarten classes will be taking a field trip to Lazy L Safari Park on Thursday, April 26th. We will be departing at 9:00 that morning and returning around 2:00 in the afternoon. Lazy L Safari Park is a walk-thru zoo that features exotic animals from around the world in a comfortable and natural setting. For more information on the farm, you may visit www.lazylsafari.com.

Dress Code

Please dress your child in comfortable clothes and tennis shoes. Please watch the weather to see if a jacket will be necessary.

Lunch

A picnic lunch will be provided by the cafeteria at the regular cost of a school lunch.

Cost

Each student needs to send $5.00 to school before April 23rd to cover admission to the park. If assistance is needed to cover the cost of the field trip, please send a note to school.

Allergies

Because your child will be exposed to things typically found at a zoo, please list any allergies your child has. Also, please send any medications needed (i.e. asthma inhaler or EpiPen) to school on the 26th.
