The boys and girls found 100 pieces of candy and prizes that were hidden in the classroom.
We had a 2nd grade guest visit our class--Miss Lexy. We enjoyed having her in our classroom!! She played with the kids during center time and read them a few books. :)

We made plants out of play dough. Each plant had to have roots, a stem, leaves, and flowers.
We also made plants out of pattern blocks. Here, Miss Andrea is leading the class in a tour of the different types of plants each child built.
We read many books about plants.
The boys and girls completed a unit on apples and taste tested apple-flavored foods.

Back-to-School Fun
We read the story, watched the animated story on the SMARTBoard, tried cocunut, and made our own cocunut name trees. These are being displayed in the hallway for everyone to enjoy.
Reading Workstations
Throughout the year, the boys and girls rotate through stations that help them learn our reading skills (phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension). For the month of August, the stations focus on letters, rhyming, and fine motor activities that strengthen their hands and help create better writers.

Honey Bees!
We had a guest visitor, Mrs. Machen, teach us about honey bees and how they produce their delicious honey.
We even got to taste the honey from Mrs. Machen's hives. We tried it when it was still covered in wax and on sweet rolls. They were both delicious! Thank you Mrs. Machen for letting our kids experience fresh honey!

By placing the rose in blue water, the boys and girls could better understand how the stem brings water up to the flower. Look closely and you will see how the rose began to turn blue!
Aren't we cute?
The kids wrote "I am thankful for...." on their headbands. Many of them were thankful for their families, cats and dogs, Jesus, and one boy was even thankful for his teacher. :)
Look at the many ways the boys and girls camouflaged their turkeys! Everyone enjoyed these turkeys while they were displayed in the hallway.
