Boxes Needed

Our Valentine’s party will be Tuesday, February 14th. Mrs. Higgins, the art teacher, will be helping the kids decorate boxes; however, she needs tissue and shoe boxes donated. Our class goes to art on Tuesday’s, so please start sending in your undecorated boxes as soon as possible. If your child has a special box that you purchased or made at home, you may send it to school anytime. We do not have a decorating contest in kindergarten, but it is always fun to see unique Valentine’s boxes.

100th Day of School

Yesterday we celebrated our 100^th day of school. It was an exciting day, and the kids were all smiles as we completed each activity! Pictures will be in the upcoming newsletter and on our class blog.

Here are some of our activities…

We made the number 100 out of Twizzlers and Oreos

Dotted the gumball numbers 1-100

Made and wore 100 fruit loop necklaces

Designed 100 pieces of honeycomb for a bumble bee

Found 100 pieces of candy hidden in the classroom

Stayed still and silent for 100 seconds

Ran a race for 100 seconds

Counted to 100 and wrote to 100

Watched 101 Dalmatians

Today we will make journal entries about our favorite 100^th day activity

Ask your child what his/her favorite activity was on the 100^th Day. I am sure s/he will have plenty of things to tell you! If you have time, have your child journal about those events. First, have your child draw a picture of the activity and then have him/her write about the picture. Encourage your child to use sight words they are familiar with to form sentences. Good Luck!

What's Going On in Kindergarten?

We are learning a lot of new exciting things! In Reading we have been learning about the letter 'O' and the sound it makes. We sang a really cool song that helped us practice saying the sound! We just finished a story about a chameleon that could not change colors to match his environment until he got dropped into a house and had to change colors really fast! We learned new vocabulary words like skin, reptile, and pattern along with our story. This week we started a new story about bunny rabbits who follow a daily schedule to help us learn what a sequence of events is. We are learning new vocabulary words from our story including bustle, tidy, and chores! Also this week we are going to practice making the sound for the letter 'H.'

In Math we have been learning how to measure objects and decide which objects are taller, shorter, and longer. We also learned how to count by five using nickels!

Another exciting thing going on at school is that tomorrow is the 100th day! We have been anxiously awaiting for this day to come! Everyday we count on our number chart and see how many days are left before we get to the 100th day! We are going to do a lot of marvelous activities tomorrow to celebrate!

Gingerbread Man
We walked into the room after recess only to find chairs on tops of tables, folders all over the floor, crayon boxes spilled, and gingerbread crumbs everywhere! Luckily for us, we soon found the culprit was the Gingerbread Man! We found crumbs and a note, but no Gingerbread Man. He left a note instructing us to find him! We had to go on a scavenger hunt all over the school to find him! He was in the office and Mrs. Shipman tried to catch him but was only able to grab part of his leg! Then, he ran to Mrs. Swindell's room and she was not able to catch him, either! After that he ran to the library and Mrs. Reynold's said he was reading books with her! From there he ran to Nurse Deb's office and she was able to get a piece of his arm! She could not catch him, though. He quickly ran to the gym and Coach Shipman could not catch him! He was so fast! Finally, he left a note with Coach Shipman that said he was sitting at Mrs. McGarity's desk! We immediately ran to the classroom and there he was! He really made us tired trying to find him, but when we did....WE CAUGHT HIM! He made for a very tasty snack, too. :)

Report Cards
Don't forget to be practicing any of the skills listed as I or N(improving or needs improvement)on your child's report card. All of the skills need to be met at a S (satisfactory) level before the end of the school year so that your child is prepared for first grade!

Homecoming Week
Next week is Homecoming Week. The elementary will be participating in the dress up days for Homecoming!

Homecoming is next Friday evening starting at 6:00 pm in the high school gym!

100^th Day Celebration

We are in need of cereal, such as Cheerios, Apple Jacks, or Fruit Loops (or the generic brands of these), that can be placed on string to make “100^th Day necklaces.” We also need packages of Oreos, Honeycomb Cereal, and bags of assorted candy (no hard candy please) for our other activities. If you would like to donate, we need it by Friday, January 20^th. Thank you for your help!
